Upfest 2017 will take place between the 29th & 31st of July
Registration will open on our website on the 1st February and be open for a month.
All confirmed festival artists will be able to paint between 11am - 7pm on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th. Monday the 31st is primarily a kids activity day and a public viewing day for completed artworks, the Monday is a reserve painting day in case of consistent bad weather over the weekend.
Upfest takes place across Bedminster & Southville which is situated in south Bristol (about a 15 minute walk from the city centre). Upfest takes place across 30+ venues and locations centered around the 1.3km stretch of North Street. In recent years the festival has grown and now includes satellite painting locations along East Street, West Street & Winterstoke Road.
Yes, on the registration page please select if you wish to register as an individual, pair or crew you will need their email addresses and full information of each person in your pair/crew in order to register.
Only request the size of space you are comfortable to paint, selecting an XXL space just because it’s on the list may mean you or someone else is not offered a space.

Crews: (Below is the space per crew member. A crew of 5 requesting an XL space would receive an 18m x 2.4m sized space.)

With 300 artists painting and bricked surfaces limited, most artists will be offered a primed boarded surface which are erected for the festival, it will be suitable for spray paint, markers, and paints of most kinds. Due to boards being re-used each year we no longer allow paste-ups.
Upfest is free! It is free to register and if you're accepted to paint, it's still free! It is also free for visitors to attend the festival.
Hosting 300 artists means we can’t provide all your paint but each artist will receive a small amount of free paint, an order form to select your free paint will be sent out once you have been accepted, you will also be able to order additional paint through us at a discounted rate, we recommend international artists use this service as many airlines don't allow you to travel with spray paint.
Due to the number of artists attending the festival we can’t pay for individual travel or hotels, we can recommend some cheap places to stay (see 'Where can I stay').
If you have no social media or website then please email images of your work to firstname.lastname@example.org please ensure you have included your artist name in the email, only email images once you have registered.
International artists will be informed by the 21st March
UK artists will be informed by 31st March
If you have been accepted to paint and another unregistered artist asked to paint with you, this is okay but you will need to share the size of the space you have been allocated. Unfortunately they will not be listed in the program / website and they will not receive any free paint.

Please email firstname.lastname@example.org, with your artist name, this is really important to allow us to reallocate the space to one of the artists on our reserve list.

From Bristol city center there is a bus service direct to North Street this is the number 24
Bristol International airport 6.5 miles (airport bus or taxi’s available for transfer to accommodation)
Cardiff international 58 miles (train journey required into Bristol aprox 50 minutes), but worth checking as flights sometimes cheaper.
London Airports 100 miles (train / coach journey required to Bristol aprox 2-3 hours), but worth checking as flights sometimes cheaper.

We recommend that artists arrive on Friday 29th so you are here ready to paint Saturday / Sunday, although Bristol is an amazing city you may wish to arrive earlier and enjoy what Bristol has to offer
There are many hostels, budget hotels, camping sites across Bristol, when searching use postcode BS31JF for nearest available, we strongly recommend you make a reservation as early as possible as they do get booked up in the summer months below are some of the local hotels, hostels, B&B available

You will need to attend registration between 9.30am & 10.30am on Saturday 30th. Registration takes place at the Tobacco Factory (BS3 1TF), you will need to attend registration in order to receive your free paint and get directions to your painting space.
Head to the sales desk at the tobacco factory where the sales team can get you registered and issue your paint if you arrive late.
There will be lists up at the tobacco factory on the day, where you can look up your number prior to registering.
Yes, We will need a square profile image from you, it needs to be 600 x 600 pixels at 300dpi Usually it would be a picture of your street work or studio work. The image will be used to promote you both online and in the festival magazine, so find a good image.

All paint orders will be ready for collection when you register at the tobacco factory on the Saturday morning
Yes, there will be a number of art sales areas at this year’s festival looked after by our volunteers. The commission on this artwork is split 50% with the artist and 50% towards the festival running costs through the Upfest sales areas the following work can be submitted. Artwork MUST be submitted in advance of the festival.

Artwork and merchandise must be sent or delivered to the Upfest Gallery by the 11th of July.
No, as the work needs to be cataloged before it can go on display all artwork and merchandise needs to be received no later than 11th July.

Please package your artwork well, damaged artwork will not be displayed, we recommend using a quality tube when sending artwork on paper.
Please include the Artworks & Merchandise submission form when you send us your items, this form will be emailed to you once your application is successful.
Artwork will be up for a minimum of a month, artwork on paper will be in the print racks at the gallery until they are sold or collected.
Unsold artwork from the festival will be added to the Upfest website, as this is a very very busy time for us it may take up to a month for your artwork to be added, to speed up the process you may be contacted for photos of your artwork, so please photograph all artworks you are sending to us.
