Dale Marshall (b.1974) began as a young graffiti artist on the streets of Bath and Bristol . With the freedoms of expression found through rebellion comes also the gritty consequences of street culture, which for Marshall led to psychotic episodes. In 1999 he was sectioned in one of Britain's oldest asylums, a building that holds a striking resemblance to his studio today, a Victorian poorhouse in the idyllic countryside of Wales.
A mental health advocate, Dale’s work explores social equality, segregation and controlled environments, resulting alongside a form of self-portraiture. His provocative and vibrant works are inspired by dramatic memories from his past and represents a healing journey through physical destruction and repair.
