Sydney Skye is a self taught Bristol artist. She draws inspiration from her many passions in life- music, street art and advocacy for kids with disabilities. One of her hopes is to advocate for better accessibility, inclusivity and understanding for kids with disabilities through her love of painting. Her son Buzz, aged 8, has cerebral palsy and inspires her with his strength, resilience and determination.
Sydney says “Buzz is awesome and has the brightest spirit, but I’m fed up of seeing him be left out of so much of life due to his disability, things are so tough for him already. He’s sadly encountered much ignorance and ableism already. The thought that I can help change things for him and other awesome kids while also following my passion for art, that is so cool. Art is incredible like that, the ability it provides the artist to merge their otherwise disparate passions.”
Sydney had mostly painted animals while discussing disability topics but her current work is becoming much more representative of the topics she discusses, focusing more on the human figure, particularly children, to do so.
