Brightening up the dull and dated Bedminster train station, Upfest, supported by Severnside Community Rail Partnership and Councillers Ed Plowden and Lisa Stone, pulled in local artists Lucas Antics and Paul Monsters to add a splash of colour to the underpass and ramps of the station. Successfully secured funding from the Bristol City Council Community Infrastructure Levy and Great Western Railway, played a key role in facilitating the project's delivery.
The murals come as part of a wider effort to improve the local environment in Bedminster, following extensive consultation with the community. Friends of Bedminster Station have long called for an enhancement to the underpass which now reflects the vibrant, evolving character of the neighbourhood. With colourful, comedic characters working their way through different situations within a Bristol setting (and via train) Lucas Antics transformed the underpass into somewhere that commuters would be happy to visit every day. Well known for his tesselating patterns created across the UK, the ramps (and entrance and exits of the underpass) were updated with vivid colours and the familiar National Rail logo, by Paul Monsters. Both artists being familiar faces at Upfest.
